Title: New Document Color Profile ~ Lynn
Post by: Lynn on June 16, 2017, 12:40:08 PM
The new Windows 10 update this morning took forever. I was afraid I was going to be late for my 9:30 am appointment!

So far I have one problem. When I opened AD and clicked on CtrlN to open a new document, my new document had a dark blue background. I checked my UI Preferences and they had not changed. If I opened an existing drawing it had the correct gray background. I took a closer look at the New Document setup. Aha! Something had been changed, the Color Profile, to this:

Would someone please tell me the proper choice to select. I hope that making this change will get rid of the blue background.

That setting is for your printer.  If you print your work, you want to make sure that the colors you see on the screen match what is actually printed.

On mine, I have selected Epson Standard.  The profile is used to make sure what you see on the screen is what you see when you print your document.  You must have an HP?

The system uses a generic one (such as Teejays) profile when it doesn't know what to select.

I do not have an HP printer. I have a Canon.

It was very disconcerting to see a new drawing open with a blue canvas background. I am 99% sure that the Color Profile Teejay uses is the same one I have always used.

Yes, you are right. That is the default profile that everyone uses.  Look on the list and see if Canon is listed.  On my list, it shows the default one that you're using now, several Microsoft profiles, and a string of Epsons.  I picked the one that matches my printer.

Apparently, the program (or App - new terminology) thinks you have an HP which is why it selected that. You can use whatever you like though.  I tried one of the microsoft ones and it made my background so white that it hurt my eyes.

There are more options that go with the color profile but you don't see them until you open a new image, then click on Document Setup, choose "color" and you'll see the other settings.

I looked at the Color Profile list, and it is very long. Has a lot of Canon choices, one or two HP, some Dell, and others. No Epson though. I had had an HP printer before I got my Canon. I have a Dell monitor. Maybe AD is gathering these from my computer, dredging way back into the past!

Lynn,  I suspect you're right.  There have only been two different printers connected to my system, my Epson430 and my daughter's Epson 410.  Both show up on my list.  The system apparently looks for any kind of drivers it can interpret to add to the list.  As a rule, I use the genetic setting unless I am planning to print on my printer.  However, I never have anything that important where the color has to be that perfect.
