I think I remember the cards - but not clearly

And I remember I gave my boyfriend a sort of computer for games. I think the name was Commodore 64?? It was a Christmas gift and I didn't see him for the rest of the holidays  :look:

The punch cards were great!  The unpunched ones were perfect for making grocery lists because they didn't bend like a piece of paper.  The punched ones made beautiful Christmas wreaths!  People did all kinds of crafts with them.

The Commodore 64 was a very popular machine back in the 80's.  So was the Atari 800 computer.  I had several Atari's that I got really cheap because I worked for Atari.  Was an awesome place to work.  We had an arcade gallery that had all the coin slots wired over on the game machines so we didn't have to put money in them.  We were encouraged to play in the arcade every day as it reduced the stress one had from programming.  It has been interesting watching the computers grow smaller and smaller and have a zillion times the power.

This is what the wreaths looked like.  I usually spray painted mine a pretty green, then scattered silver glitter on it.

Oh it is beautiful - it matches what you can do in AD

I was an office trainee in the newspaper-business. I remember they used cards with holes. Something with O and 1 I think. I didn't pay attention back then

Linda, I hope you manage to get things going again.  It took me a while but I was able to create a boot disk and that did the trick.  Good luck!!

Majse, yes the cards were full of 1's and zeros.  That's the only language a computer understands.  Programming languages convert everything into 1 and zero even though they may code it in regular English.  I learned to code with 1 and zero first (assembler language) but as things advanced, so did the way we wrote our code.  I worked for an insurance corporation and they made us re-write all of our programs in a language called CoBol so they could read it. They didn't understand the coded languages but with CoBol, they could follow the flow of data on a spread sheet.  Now, we have no clue what is going on behind the scenes but it still goes down to 1 and zero.

One thing that happens on the internet is, no matter how you write your email address (Upper/Lower case), the computer converts it to lower case.  So, if I put my email as MLWhite@pircnet.com, it would internally be changed to all lower case. There is a reason for that.  No two people can have the same email address.  By converting them to lower case, it ensures that no one else has the same email as you.

Smart with the emails

But the people who come up with the ideas and make them come to live - wow. They must use a part of the brains I don't have...

I'm back in business!  Took 2 long days but I finally got win 10 with the 1803 update included in it, all installed.  I've had so many problems with this that I am a backup fanatic!   In the end, I lost nothing except time!
Now off to fix a nice dinner, it's our 40th wedding anniversary today!  Dinner at home this year due to his knee.  But it will still be special!   :stars:

Happy Anniversary Linda.  :cheer3:

The last Windows update, which was a big one, has caused no end of issues for users. My PC hasít booted Windows for past week or so but too busy with other stuff to deal with it.
I made time this morning to drop the pc into my local repair store. Hopefully theyíll fix it today and iíll can collect it layer. I resent having to pay for repairs that MS updates have caused!

I miss posting but normal setvice should resume early July.

Keep on smiling! It will make people wonder what you're up to!! :)
