We were planning a trip to Reno but decided against it purely because of time restraints. My brother visited there a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

No conventions on whilst we were in Las Vegas, but it got very busy last couple of days we were there as people started to arrive in readiness for the big fight.  Glad we weren't there whilst that was on. It was interesting to see the venue during a tour on the Big Red Bus.

I would love to see some Ice Sculptures and if I am not too premature think my husband may be planning a surprise trip to Iceland for my 60th birthday in February. We have never visited Iceland and I've always fancied visiting. Rebecca visited a couple of years ago and said it was wonderful, very different and very beautiful. They have Ice Hotels and Ice Bars there so I may get to see some Ice Sculptors...hope so. I have never fancied staying in a Ice Hotel but would love to spend some time in one of the Ice Bars they have.

Oh my goodness, can't imagine what a hotel utility bill would cost but suffice to say it would be a staggering amount. lol   Talking of Queens...I did know what the Queen earns, a hell of a lot. It's public knowledge but have forgotten now.

Yep!  You got it right about the divorce thing!  That's why so many Californians are married so many times. Divorce is so easy!  I do believe though, there is a waiting period before one can re-marry but not positive about that.

I  love Reno!  It's much more laid back and homey. The casinos are all older and there's not nearly the glitz that Las Vegas provides but it's not nearly as expensive either.  They have some great shows.  There are other interesting places to see.. Carson City for one and even Elko, which is where Leenie lives.

You should be in Las Vegas when a convention is happening.  When they have the electronics convention each year, there an additional 40-50 thousand more people in Las Vegas!  They have a HUGE convention center to stat with but they overflow into the hotels for various activities and after parties.  Those after parties are really extravagant!  That's where I saw my first real ice sculpture. I was fascinated with it!  I went every year for about 8 years.  My boss had his own plane so he, his wife, and I went every year.   Have been a number of other times with family.

I don't know why people in Nevada cannot buy lottery tickets - could be the gaming commission won't allow it because of the casinos.  I would love to have, as my income, the amount of the monthly utility bill for just one hotel!   I could live like a queen!!

I think that's a valid point MaryLou..gambling has taken off in other areas and has had a knock on effect in Las Vagas. Reno I think is another gambling area.

Apparently it was a quiet period for Las Vegas whilst we were there. Remarkable as we thought it was very busy and chaotic! lol

Next door to Whiskey Pete's which is just on the border of California neighbouring Nevada is a Lotto store. The queues of people waiting for the store to open so that they could buy lottery tickets was unbelievable. Apparently, it is not possible to buy lotto tickets in Nevada, as it's illegal.  I was quite surprised about that! lol What a Goldmine that store is!

What I also found odd is that if you want a quick divorce, just take up residence in Las Vegas for 6 weeks and hey presto you can get a divorce in a matter of hours.

The idiosyncrasies of Nevada laws are astonishing! lol

We're not allowed to take our own food in because that's how they make their money.  But.. if we don't use a huge purse...  we can sort of sneak it in.  What we've done other times is, take extra empty bags, then buy a medium size popcorn and split it into our bags.    It was a fun experience, that's for sure!! :floozie1: :floozie1:

Sounds like you had a great time especially with the luxury of the Theatre. I've been taking my own eats to the Theatre or Cinema for a long time. 3 or 4  for a bag of Chocolate opposed to 1 in Tesco, or 2p in Lidl!...just joking 49p!

We went to see "Home, Again" with Reese Witherspoon.  It was okay but not one I would pay to see again.  Had a few good laughs but each scene was very predictable.

The one reason this was such a surprise is because we went to that same theater in February for my birthday.  I've never seen anything like it in a movie theater!  Was also surprised that the ticket matinee price for seniors was the same, $8.50.  With all that luxury, I would have thought more like $15!!  However, they make big bucks at the concession stand. One small soda and a small popcorn was $10.65!

Next time I go, I'll be taking a larger purse that has a soda and some popcorn tucked away inside!!  :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

I am still in awe of the comfort of sitting in that huge oversized leather chair and laying back with my shoes off and feet up watching a movie.  Like Teejay, I felt how the rich and royals must feel!!  Very enjoyable!  :stars: :stars:
