Affinity Designer Beta Discussion / Re: Mini tut - Sculpting
« Last post by MaryLou on January 13, 2019, 03:57:30 pm »
Well, my first attempt did not work.  When doing the sculpting, are you using the Rope Mode or the Window Mode (on the context toolbar)?  Also, when do you leave the wire mode and go back to the draw mode?

I followed everything (or so I thought) but after I did the subtract, I was left with the right side of the heart and somehow, my whole image disappeared.

Okay - I just tried it again.  This time, it seemed to work except when I did the sculpt and the cut, I was left with the right side and not the left.  Even so, I followed the rest of the steps and here's how it looked.  The right side still shows part of the heart.

Affinity Designer Beta Discussion / Program bombs - please test
« Last post by MaryLou on January 13, 2019, 03:40:05 pm »
I was going to try the mini-tut that Teejay posted but the program keeps bombing on me. These were my exact steps:

1.  Opened a new document, 800x800
2.  Set the stroke to 3
3.  Selected a Fill color
4.  Opened the tool with all the presets
5.  Selected the Heart tool

My new document disappeared and the program locked up.
I tried this 3 times with the same results
Rebooted my system and tried again, got the exact same results.

Then I tried it this way:

1.  Open New Document
2.  Draw heart
3.  Set Stroke and fill color
All went well.

Can a few of you please try it using my first method?  It will not work for me doing it that way and if it can be replicated by others, I can report it.

Thank you, Teejay!!!!   I am so anxious to play with this.  Have two more days to finish my newsletter then I can play for the rest of the month - and January is a long month!!

Little tutorials like this will really be helpful, and labeling it as a min  tut is brilliant!  Can always find it. THANKS!!! :stars: :stars:

ok if i  draw a shape with a stroke ..
then convert to curves
then  layer/expand stroke
i have two layers one for the shape and one for the expanded stroke
which makes it very very interesting
because
once you have finished altering both layers you can apply another stroke to the altered shape
and start the whole process again....lol   my head hurts from all this thinking on a Sunday morning. :thumb3:

I took out my tablet to try to make paint drips.

What is interesting is that it is possible to work on the contour and also on the inner shape once it has also been converted into curves.

Those who, unlike me, have a steady hand should do wonders with this tool.
