Loss of Toolbars and Studios ~ Lynn
« on: December 30, 2020, 05:31:36 PM »
I was working in AD and suddenly the toolbars on the left and the studios on the right disappeared. The toolbar at the top remained, and when I checked on View it showed checkmarks for the various studios, showing that they were supposed to be open, but I had nothing but the blank edge of AD. This was also true for the toolbar on the left. I had no access to any tools. I could create a new document or open or close existing documents, but I couldn't do any work on them. I closed AD and reopened it. No change.

I have no idea what is wrong, and I have no idea how to return AD to operation. If anyone has experienced anything similar or has any ideas as to what I can do, please let me know.

All I can think of at this time is to wait until after the holiday and then post the problem on the Affinity Forum.

I reduced AD as small as I could without losing the tools across the top and then used the Snipping Tool to capture an image, shown here:

Lynn, I have not had this happen and I am currently on my iPad.....but did you hit the Tab key by chance?  Sometimes just  accidentally touching it will throw things in disarray on my screen.  Just a thought?

The greatest mistake we  make is living in constant fear that we will make one

Itís happened to me and in my case somehow I had hidden the toolbars
Try going view/show tools

I am not at home at the moment as soon as I get back I will open ad and g
Have a look
You can also reset Ad if it comes to it but I seem to think itís a hidden tools thing.. be back In a few hours
youuuuu hoooooooooooo
am back and I think linda is right

go to view/Toggle UI   its right at the bottom and checkmark it
also make sure you have a checkmark for tools too  (unchecked hides the tools)

that should do it ... let us know

I toggled the UI and I made sure there was a checkmark by Show Tools, but nothing happened. Yuck!

The guys at Serif won't be back to work until after the 4th, and they warn that they will then have a backlog of work to catch up on.

Any other ideas as to what I can do?

Linda, I tried the Tab key on my keyboard. It removed the toolbar across the top. When I hit the Tab key again, the toolbar at the top returned. So that is not the cause of my problem.

Lynn, try this: "Window", "Dock" (or "Dock All").

They advise they give for a reset is to hold cntrl down and keep it held  while double left click to launch AD still hold the cntrl key until you see the reset menu

there will be a few things with a check mark
have a look and see if you can see anything in there that may help

After reading your suggestions (thank you), I opened AD. I immediately noticed a change--the left toolbars were showing once more! Then I opened View and checked for any changes. I saw that Show Studios was now unchecked. I checked it and my studios appeared on the right.

All I have to do is get my preferences back in operation and I'll be ready to go back to work.

Whee!
