Can you adjust how AD handles overlapping lines in a shape?
« on: November 01, 2021, 02:58:21 PM »
Hi there! First time posting.

When I'm doing digital lettering, I like to draw the inner corners of my vector shapes with an overlap. Instead of there being a node in the corner, the two lines overshoot each other and connect inside the shape. The thing is, whenever I fill the shape, I can see that Designer is treating those inside bit as exclusions to the shape, so I get all these little triangles cut out all over. Is there a way to make it so AD recognises overlaps as part of the inside of the shape? I was able to do this in FontLab and Adobe Illustrator, but not in AD. I've included some screen grabs to illustrate the issue.

A warm welcome to pirc.

i do not know of a way to tell AD the inner nodes are part of the shape and not to be 'cut out'
however
when i need to do this

i make my shape then go
layer/expand stroke
i then go to Layer/geometry/divide

this will make lots of pieces so the last step would be
layer/geometry/add

the geometries or on the toolbar (you probably know that )  :cheergirl:

it seems a load of steps but it isn't once you do them a few times

i know its not what you want but this is how i get around it
good luck and  there are folks a lot brighter than me here
so someone may be able to help

Hi exfish,

To change the fill mode, click the "Layer" button, "Fill Mode", change to "Winding".

Boy howdy, that did the trick! Thank you so much. I don't think I'd have ever found that on my own.
