Crop Tool...Grethe

Does some of you experience problems with it?
I've tried again and again and it crop all 4 sites. Is it me or is it a bug?
This time I wanted to make the handle to the lantern, using a circle.

See my image

I continued to find a way out of this problem. If I expand the crop, and then crop, only the part I crop vanish.
See image

I'm not sure it is supposed to be this way.

the crop tool seems to want to chop the stroke .
this is happening to me too grethe
pull the sides and the top node out  so you get to see all the stroke.

---------------------------------------

i am not doing the handle like this ...

i am making the stroke circle with the fill nulled out

then right click  convert to curves

then  select the bottom node and choose 'Break Curve' in the Action panel on the context toolbar
then  delete the bottom nodes
i am left with a handle

I did mine with the cropping tool and it does it the way your second image showed if you do not like it later then you can always go back to the layer click on the crop tool and change it. So that is where the cropping tool would come in handy.

Teejay  I forgot about doing it that way your memory is very good I remember now you telling us to do it this way once before.  We would be lost without you.

One more thing to add is... if you don't want the rounded ends,  you can change them to flat ends on the Stroke Panel.

Teejay, I forgot all about doing it that way!  We need a refresher here!

San, your method works great too!!  Definitely an advantage to be able to restore the shape to a full circle.

Actually, I would have used a different method to make a handle.....  see image below:
Find a need and fill it!  . . .
