Absent - SherylC
« on: January 19, 2019, 11:44:17 am »
Sorry I haven't been around much past few weeks. Not sure where to start but keeping it brief...my niece (and hubby) had their first baby  a couple of weeks ago and I've been busy sewing and knitting bits and pieces for the baby including crocheting a large cot blanket which is now complete and ready for posting. Also I have had commissions to make Free Standing Lace and some croched projects such as fingerless gloves, matching scarves and some knitted Slippers.  Think my head is starting to raise above the water! lol

Thanks all. I've had a few issues with my health recently. In particular some concern regarding my Kidney GFR which dropped from a long and stable high rate to a low rate which came completely out of the Blue. GP was concerned that it may be due to CKD but past couple of tests has shown that the rate is increasing thankfully. Just need to keep an eye on it.  None of us know what's around the corner. :)

Your health is the most important thing you have so....  take care of it!!

I just had my annual checkup - Doctor said that other than my lungs, I'm in excellent shape!  Liver and kidneys are strong, nothing seems to be broken and unless I keep falling, I should lead a long life!   :yes04: :yes04: :yes04:

That's fantastic news MaryLou. Always good to get some positive Health feedback from the doc.  They are getting on about the increase in number of people suffering with Diabetes here...awful results such as amputations if left untreated, or suspected and undiagnosed.

My breathing has been slowly becoming worse of the the last 4-5 years.  Went from using a cane to a walker for most things.  About 2 weeks ago, my brother who lives in another state sent me what he uses for his emphysema.  After the first use, I felt different - and better.  Has been using it for over 3 weeks now and have not picked up the cane even once. Have not had to use my "rescue" inhaler but one time as well as the nebulizer.  I was using them both daily and sometimes multiple times.

I cannot get this med through my HMO because it's not on their list.  It's too expensive.  Is around $400 (average) per one inhaler that lasts for one month.  I can't afford to buy it and even with my Medicare co-pay, it would still cost me more than I can afford to pay.  So, my dear brother said he would make sure I get that inhaler. He doesn't have to pay for his and he can order more than he needs. I'll be the beneficiary of all the extras!   Hopefully, I will have a more active summer! :yeah:

It's wonderful that there is an Inhaler that can improve your breathing but not so wonderful that you can't get it. Manufacturers put such a high price on their medications when they probably cost a fraction of the manufacturing costs. I understand a lot of money is put into research but it's a lottery as only wealthy people can afford them....it's ridiculous. Good job that your brother can get extra ones to give to you allowing you to have a more active life.    :yeah:

Its a similar scenario here too...postcode lottery we call it.  For example Cancer drugs that have proven to prolong life are available in some parts of the country and not in others. As you know we have the National Health Service, which confuses many people who do not understand it, was set up by a Welsh Politician...Aneurin Bevan. His goal was to set up a service (NHS) so that people who needed emergency treatment could get it free at the point of access. The costs of the treatments are not free by any means as the British Taxpayer pays a National Health Contribution which is a secondary tax on top of Income Tax to cover the costs. So two taxes are deducted from employees salaries.  I do not understand the postcode lottery scenario as anyone who works no matter where they live pay the taxes. So it is very unfair that some people can get meds and others can't when they have paid into the system...appalling!

If I had a poverty level income (I'm just barely above it) then I could get help through the HMO but nothing here is free.  I pay $235 per month for health care but I still have to pay a co-pay for every doctor visit, every procedure, my medications, etc.  I paid into our medicare system all my life and I am still paying into it. I don't have a choice because it's automatically taken out of my retirement.

My eye doctor wants me to have the cataracs removed from my eyes.  My co-pay for just ONE eye is $3,004.  That is WAY out of my price range. So, I go without.

What really ticks me off is, our politicians get the best of care.  They can choose where they wish to be insured and the tax payers subsidizes 72% of their premium costs.  Life can be so unfair sometimes!4 :yeah:

Same here. Dental charges are through the roof......well known fact that dentists are on the make, it's ridiculous.

I recently had two Crowns changed...one on the NHS which cost me 200 and the other Private which cost me 350 (this tooth is near the front of my mouth so more visible). So there are charges to be paid even on the NHS, nothing is free here.

A friend of mine, who is married to a dentist, has just had a brand new top of the range Mercedez Benz bought for her by her husband as a birthday gift!. Gps and Dentists make mega Bucks...it's insane.

Politicians in my book have gone down the pan, greedy, self important and out of touch. It's a  dire situation here regarding Brexit. There is talk by our PM that we may not leave the EU despite the peoples vote to leave. If that is the case then it is the end of democracy.
