One easy way to make jagged edges - Teejay
« on: June 09, 2018, 12:02:22 PM »
Grethe asked if anyone knew of an easy way to make a jagged edge around a leaf shape
this is how I do mine.

I make the leaf shape with no stroke and just fill
I then duplicate that leaf  this time no inner fill and a colour for the stroke

then i apply a brush to the stroke
any brush you like and which you think looks good

then clip the stroke layer  to the leaf shape and on the stroke  use a layer blend of Erase

this is it in pictures

hope this helps for future leaves.  love T x

That's really clever, Teejay!!  I tried it and it worked!!!   Well, it worked the first time but the second time, I must have missed something because the outline still showed around the clipped shape.  I will try it again and see if I can get the same results I got the first time.

Things like this would make a good tutorial!   The snapshots tend to get lost  or forgotten about.   I like that brush you used too.  Is it one of yours?  :praise46:

my pleasure rege.

ML the only reason i can think it not working is if you chose the shape and not the stroke layer
it has to be the stroke layer with the Llayer Blend Erase
and as for a tut ...

you are more clear ...much much much clearer than me with things like this.... lol

feel free to take and do it your way.

and am chuffed you both liked it.

oops
yes i made this brush as a woolly sheep brush ...

i will put it in the brush download place.  done   and a link to it below.

Teejay, you could be right.  I'm not thinking all that clearly at the moment.  It's good old newsletter time and since we just had a yard sale this weekend, no one is getting their reports in on time.  If I don't finish it by the 15th, we won't have one this month.  Things like this tend to stress me out a bit.

However, I would love to make a tut out of your leaf and of course, give you credit for it.  Things like this are what is needed so those who have the creativity will get the most out of their tools.  I will put this on my "to-do" list.  Will be fun!!   :praise53:

I made a leaf using this method, Teejay, and it turned out beautifully!

This is the first time ever I have used Erase Blend Mode!

Well...  eventually, you'll get to give it another try because I'm going to be putting this into a tutorial.  It's too good to let it just sit here and needs to be shared.  I have already started it and hopefully will finish it in a few weeks.  Right now, am taking advantage of the great weather we're having to get my yard work and other outside projects caught up. :cheergirl:

I had planned on doing it today but my new son-in-law called me and asked if he could have the pleasure of my company for their Father's Day celebration and that he would come pick me up and take me home.    Now, how could I refuse such a gracious invitation!!  We had a nice time.   He has two grown children who are now my step grandsons.  My family is growing!!

Will try and get it done this week.  I have a pretty short attention span right now, but it will pass.  I need to go grocery shopping for fresh foods tomorrow.  I HATE shopping!! :laugh1:

Keep on smiling! It will make people wonder what you're up to!! :)
