Closing AD
« on: October 02, 2018, 10:27:50 AM »
Is anyone else having a problem closing AD?  I get a message every single time I try to close and there is nothing else open but that program.  The only way I can shut it down is by going to the Task Master.  Here's the message I get:

Wow..that's a long thread!!  I read all of the posts and ended up not doing the process manager.  Went straight to the app folder and there was only one file in the Temp folder.  I deleted that and all worked just fine!!  Apparently, there's a bug that's not clearing out the temp files.  I better go and post on the Affinity forum that the problem has been solved.

Sure glad it was an easy fix!!   THANKS!!!!!!

The ones they mentioned were not in my temp files and since it was a temp folder, I knew it wouldn't hurt to just delete whatever was there.   That's an obvious bug because the program should clear all temp files when you close it.  Anyway, it worked!!  Maybe will be fixed in next version.

The trouble is you are not sure what makes it do it.

True, we don't know so that's something the developers will have to figure out.  Under some conditioins, the temporary files are not all deleted when you exit the program.  I'm sure they'll get it fixed thouth.  :brav01:

I've had a few issues with AD freezing and taking a hell of a long time to load, especially the Layer Palette but no issues at present with closing it.
Tomorrow is another day. Today is now, live it to the full!.

AD has always loaded extremely slow for me, especially compared to my other programs. I've gotten used to is, I guess.

in my case the slow loading (2 minutes 40 seconds )
seems to hang on the loading fonts ...which is strange because i do not install fonts i use a font viewer.

Teejay, that font viewer installs the fonts into memory, otherwise you would not see them in AD.  When you open a graphic program, it loads in every font that has been read into memory so even if you're using a font viewer, those fonts are in memory.   The font viewer is not associated with AD or any other program.  It only shows you the fonts and installs those you select.  AD has no association with the font programs but it does load in all the installed fonts from Windows and any other fonts that your font program installs.  Hope that makes sense.  If you stopped using the font thing, the program would load much faster.  Try it :xmas71: :xmas71:

ok i understood that and i have only one question
i launch AD but i do not have the font viewer launched i only use font viewer when i play with text

so here's the Q
does fontveiwer load the fonts even when you have not launched it
cos its 2 mins 40 secs  from scratch with no fontviewer .

its always been that way for me  and affinity dont seem to want to sort it .

i think it must be my ageing desktop .

Keep on smiling! It will make people wonder what you're up to!! :)
